The OluKai Mākena marks a turning point for the Hawaii-born comfort kings by finally blending the chill island vibe of their sandals with serious golf-ready performance. Designed for stability, waterproof protection, and that signature “barefoot feel,” the Mākena proves OluKai is ready to hang with the big boys on the course.
Out of the box, the Mākena instantly gives off coastal luxury with its ocean-inspired outsole and subtle branding. The clean, athletic profile and premium synthetic materials match the photos perfectly. And wow do I love the 2 color soles!!
The Mākena earns solid style points on the course as my range buddies did ask about them. They’re understated yet sleek enough that people notice without screaming for attention.
While modest at first, when I did show the bottom and when she found out they were made by OluKai, it got a 5/5. Likely just for the effortless Hawaiian coolness factor!
I would, especially to friends who value all-day comfort and play mostly in dry conditions. I’d warn the spiked loyalists that the traction is good, but not elite in wet conditions. But overall, this is OluKai’s best shoe by a wide margin.
Shockingly breathable for a waterproof shoe. Even after 18 holes in humid weather, my socks stayed dry and cool, a rare combo that deserves props.
The “Locked-In Traction” outsole with wave-inspired contours grips impressively in dry and dewy conditions. However, if you’re swinging hard in soggy fairways, the performance dips slightly, so good, but not foolproof.
Right out of the box, the Mākena feels snug but not punishing. Expect a little stiffness across the top for your first couple of rounds, but it loosens nicely without creating hot spots or blisters.
OluKai finally nailed the fusion. With a sleek island-inspired aesthetic, waterproof performance, and legit course stability, this is the first OluKai that truly looks and plays like a serious golf shoe.
The OluKai Mākena is the most complete golf shoe the brand has ever made...it's stylish, supportive, and ready for serious play. While the traction could use a touch more bite and sizing runs a bit snug, it’s an absolute winner for comfort, breathability, and pure laid-back island swagger.
If you’re a fan of OluKai sandals and want a golf shoe that can actually perform on the fairway, the Mākena deserves a consideration. I'm definitely sold, they had me at the fun bottom shoe designs from the moment I saw them.
