If you have a Canada golf bucket list, Eagle Ranch Resort in Invermere should definitely be on it. Eagle Ranch is a mountain masterpiece where every tee shot comes with a postcard view and every par feels just a little more heroic.
Perched high above the Columbia River and framed by the Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges, Eagle Ranch delivers a jaw-dropping mix of dramatic ravines, rolling fairways, and those “am I really playing here?” moments that make golf travel worth it. Ranked among ScoreGolf’s Top 59 Public Courses in Canada, this course blends beauty with bite while rewarding precision and punishing the overconfident. Let's break down the course in some relevant categories, shall we!
Eagle Ranch is one of those rare courses where the real thing actually outshines the Instagram feed. The drone shots can’t fully capture the drama in pictures. This is one of the few places where you’ll put your phone down, not because you’ve run out of photos to take, but because you just want to stand there and soak it all in.
The Headwaters Lodge and clubhouse have that classic upscale mountain lodge feel complete with timber beams, panoramic patio views, and the kind of restaurant where you can sit for hours after your round. The pro shop is well-stocked with solid brands and a standard layout.
Firm but fair, these greens roll beautifully smooth with just enough undulation to make you think twice before firing at every flag. They hold approach shots well and reward touch around the edges.
While you a fighting chance on most holes, it’s not a course that tolerates wild misses. The generous fairways encourage confident swings, but if you stray too far, the deep rough or ravine edges are quick to remind you who’s boss. It’s a course that rewards smart play rather than hero shots.
For a destination resort course, the pace of play is surprisingly smooth. That said, weekend rounds can slow down during tourist season when every foursome wants an extra photo or two on the cliffside tees. Most days, though, you’re looking at a comfortable four-and-a-half-hour stroll through mountain bliss.
The halfway house setup is average, with a respectable selection of quick bites and cold beverages. Where it shines is the restaurant and patio, where post-round meals hit the spot.
The 16th and 18th holes are pure drama, two of the most photogenic finishing shots in British Columbia. The par-3 16th forces you to launch over a ravine to a narrow, well-bunkered green, while the 18th asks you to clear one final gorge before the clubhouse crowd watches your approach. Both holes embody the “risk it for the reward” spirit that makes Eagle Ranch unforgettable.
Breaking 90 here is absolutely possible, but not without strategy. The combination of elevation changes, blind carries, and water hazards will test your club selection and patience. It’s the kind of course that tempts you with scoring opportunities, then punishes overconfidence with triple bogeys if you’re not careful.
Hole 16, 210 yards - No surprise here (see above). The tee shot launches across a deep canyon to a green perched on a ledge, with wind swirling through the valley. It’s a hole that sticks with you long after the round, both for its beauty and for the adrenaline rush it demands.
Eagle Ranch isn’t cheap, and depending on the season, you may find yourself paying premium prices compared to nearby tracks. But between the top-tier conditioning, friendly staff, and sheer scenic value, it’s still a worthy splurge for most golfers.
Oh, you’ll brag. Between the ravine carries, the mountain backdrops, and that walk down 18 with the clubhouse patio in view, this is a round you’ll want to talk about for weeks. It might not have the name recognition of Banff Springs or Tobiano, but among Canadian golf travelers, dropping “Eagle Ranch” instantly earns you respect.
Eagle Ranch Resort is a visual masterpiece and one of the most scenic golf experiences in Western Canada. It combines breathtaking views, impeccable conditioning, and thrilling shot values in a way few courses can. While a few rough edges in blind drive holes and pricing keep it from perfection, it remains a must-play for anyone chasing the ultimate mountain golf adventure.
